The government portals you'll use again and again

Almost every official process in Australia goes through one of these portals. It's worth understanding what each one does before you need it urgently.

Centrelink requires 4 years of PR before you can access it
myGov — my.gov.au

The central portal: from there you access Medicare, the ATO (tax), Centrelink and other government services, all with a single login.

ATO (tax) — ato.gov.au

For your TFN, your annual tax return (between July and October) and your tax history. You can lodge it yourself or hire a tax agent.

Centrelink — servicesaustralia.gov.au

Government assistance. As a permanent resident from a LATAM country, you have to wait 4 years before accessing unemployment payments (the NARWP rule). On a temporary visa, you have no access.

Fair Work — fairwork.gov.au

Your workplace rights: minimum wage by industry, how to report workplace abuse, and information on employment contracts.

Home Affairs — homeaffairs.gov.au

For everything visa, immigration and citizenship related. Extending or changing your visa is done online, through ImmiAccount.
